Coach John Vinson
About the Camp
Coach John Vinson was a four year starter for Wake Forest University after graduating from Maclay School in 1982. He earned MVP honors and played #1 singles while playing for the Demon Deacons. His coaching experience includes: Louisiana Tech head women's tennis coach, Utah State University head men's and women's tennis coach, Assistant Florida State University men's tennis coach (7 yrs.), Director of Junior Player Development for the USTA Florida section and most recently, varsity coach at Chiles High School. Coach Vinson is USPTA certified and has been a teaching professional for the past thirty (30) years. Coach Vinson is currently the director of tennis at Maclay School. Among the assistants helping with the camps will be Mason Snider, a former top 5 ranked Florida Junior player and standout at the University of Alabama from 1996-2000. This program is designed to meet the needs of the beginner and intermediate player. Lunch will be provided at noon. Swimming is included as part of the daily activities (swim test necessary).
The camp features the following:
- Mechanics of groundstrokes, volley and serve
- Drills and strategy
- Lunch (Not included the week of August 3rd)
- Match Play
- Grouping according to ability
- Fitness and conditioning
Early registration ends the Friday before camp.
